Love Lydgate Lunch update

I do hope those of you who came to the Love Lydgate Lunch enjoyed it. We are learning all the time and thought we would try something different with the Lite Music Group. Of course we did have to pay for them which made a dint in the takings but we did manage to make £135 after paying everything out and £158.50 on the raffle, again after paying for the table decorations. At a total of £293.00 it is still a great boost for funds. The prime objective is to get people together for good food and good fun so hopefully we achieved that too. Any feedback is helpful to plan the next one, so do send any thoughts or suggestions.By the way the Lydgate Larks appeared for free!

We did very well with the donations too, receiving £360.00 So we have a healthy financial situation of £618.06 in hand.

Thank you to both donors and Love Lydgate Lunchers it is so encouraging to have your support.

And also Frank & Margaret Boocock would like to say a huge thank you for the generous donations made towards the Practical Action collection at the Love Lydgate Lunch. In all it totalled a magnificent £195. See www.practicalaction.org to see what your money will support.

Lydgate Homewatch Meeting October 2011 Minutes

At White Hart, Lydgate.

Apologies: Royce Franklin, Philip Clarke, JulieWright

Attended by: J Greenwood, I Merckel, F Boocock, J Whitehead, E Watts, Dr Kershaw, M Ellis, PCSO Wayne Turley, PC Dave Pickles

The meeting had been planned by the LL Steering Group and the Homewatch Co-ordinators.

Julie Wright has taken over from Peter Lee but has since been made redundant. She had sent letters out to co-ordinators asking for an update on Homewatch members. If you have not yet returned this please do so as Julie is updating all records before she leaves her post.

It is likely that the PCSOs will take on the Homewatch role.

It is important that residents take advantage of the excellent e-watch online publication. This sends out up to date information and is invaluable. It was good to hear though that both Wayne and Dave both see the importance of face to face meetings when possible.

Following the last meeting, co-ordinators were asked to encourage all members to sign up for this service. Some bulletins are sent via GGRA but it is better if you can access it yourself directly. Please email Wayne Turley Wayne.Turley@gmp.police.uk to ask him to process this for you.

The group were reminded that most people in our area can now upgrade to a faster broad band service. Contact BT for details.

Update on preventative police work

Big push to alert household to have lights on timers so that houses are lit particularly between 3.00 pm and 8.00pm. This is prime time for opportunist burglaries. Timers were given away to those who attended.

Window alarms were also demonstrated and circulated for use on particularly windows.

Reminder to label all equipment and that the pens used do fade over time so labeling should be done annually. If Police can’t identify property is hard to prove it is stolen. Also if property is recovered and doesn’t have your identity markings it is impossible to prove it is yours.

Posters to deter anti social behaviour around Hallowe’en trick or treaters have been circulated.

Always keep IMI number of your mobile phone. This means it can be put out of action if it is lost or stolen. To get number Press star key then hatch key then 06, then follow instructions. More modern phones have Find my phone apps which can be downloaded.

Operation Alloy is under way, scrap metal is bringing big prices and thefts are prevalent. Keep ladders or other metal objects. etc. out of sight and locked away.

Individual issues were then discussed.

Both Wayne and Dave were thanked for their vigilance and support. Along with Lee and Lorna we have an excellent team in our area.

Dave agreed to make sure both he and at least one PCSO would be present on November 11th for the Remembrance Service at Lydgate.

Next meeting of the Saddleworth Homewatch is at 7.30 at the Conservative Club in Uppermill. If you have any questions do try to get along there.

Newsletter deadline

The deadline for copy for our next newsletter is August 16th. Have you got anything that we could use?
Residents always like to hear about special houses in the village and their history. You might have had a specific event in your family or have a favourite recipe to share.
We will be using the newsletter to update people on the walls and the Lydgate in Bloom judging.
Are there any issues that you would like to hear about? I will of course be advertising forthcoming events.

Community Wall Hanging

We had a really good turn out for those interested in doing the wall hanging. 12 people came along (men women, young and older) and another 7 gave their apologies but want to be involved.

The starting point is a picture which Jill Harrison has painted and it really is special, beautiful colours and shapes and so evocative of our area. I am sure you will really like it.

Celia brought along some examples of how we can now work on it in fabric. Both her work and Jill’s painting were really inspirational.

They are going to enlarge it and divide it in to sections that we can work on.

The next meeting is on Wednesday 22nd at 2.00 pm in the Parish Hall.

It isn’t too late to join as we haven’t really started yet. Celia will be leading us in a skills session on Weds. We are very mixed group from people who can just thread a needle to some who are very experienced. All welcome.

We need resources. Can you help with that?

We need plain coloured materials, textured materials (they don’t have to be huge pieces), ribbon, buttons, wool, threads…You must have something! The colours are greens, yellows, oranges, reds, browns, and sky colours blue, mauves, creams and greys.

I can pick them up if you phone me on 01457877935 or just bring them along and see what we are doing.

Plans for Lydgate in Bloom

This year the judging for Lydgate in Bloom will be on July 28th. Before then we need all hands on deck in terms of planting, prepping and cleaning ready for Lydgate in Bloom.

Linda will be meeting with the Lydgate in Bloom team on weds at 7.30 to discuss strategies but there are things that we can all do in the meantime and she has asked me to let you know….

Firstly, your own planting and preparation. This year it has been suggested that there is a colour theme running through the village of reds and warm colours. You will see that the White Hart and the tubs outside the Church Lychgate have been done in this way. If you want to do your own colour scheme though that is perfectly fine, of course.

Secondly the long bed which has been further developed between the pavement and the White Hart wall on Stockport Rd needs to be prepared ready for planting. It needs weeding and forking. Linda is suggesting that this is done as a community project from 1.00 pm on Sunday 19th.( We need to be ready for planting the following week)

If you can’t come then it would be great if you could spend 30 mins or an hour doing it in the morning. Even 15 mins would be great. You only need a small fork or trowel. Most of the weeds are superficial. Young families could let the children have a go too.

Some plants have been promised by the council but we have all been waiting for the contractors to finish. With the great job that they have done and the wonderful work we can all do together we must surely achieve an even higher accolade that last year.

Will keep you posted on other activities but for now, please remember July 28th.
